Health & Wellness
The U.S. faces some pressing challenges
A third of all school age children are either overweight or obese
Chronic disease now accounts for 75% of U.S. healthcare spend
A shortage of qualified physicians in the next decade
More than 20% of the population will be over-65 by 2040
How we are trying to tackle these problems
Across our funds, our Health & Wellness investments have been addressing challenges like these by building high-quality care homes for the elderly; by helping people with long-term conditions manage their health more effectively; by pioneering ‘hospital at home’ services to reduce the pressures on A&E departments; by using community pharmacies to improve health outcomes in underserved communities; by broadening access to affordable health and fitness facilities (see The Gym, right); and more.
The Hub pharmacy
Bridges created the Hub pharmacy group in the UK in 2015 after it acquired nine pharmacies in the North of England, to be used as a platform for a ‘buy-and-build’ strategy.
The Hub aims to improve local health outcomes, with Bridges’ investment enabling the newly-acquired pharmacies to be refitted to provide a number of additional services, such as help with smoking cessation, weight-loss and minor ailments. They also focus on improving patient adherence to dosage regimes, helping to reduce costly drug wastage. Many of the pharmacies offer extended hours healthcare services, assisting the urgent care crisis by enabling patients to visit pharmacies late at night or on weekends.
Since 2002, we have done the following
Hours of quality care delivered
Hospital bed days created
